I have a Specialized hardrock 1995 is it possible to change its fork and install a fork with a suspension?

Has anybody tried installing a front fork suspension to their Specialized Hardrock mountain bike frames? based on bikepedia, the headset of Hardrock 1995 is 1" and I can't find any fork(suspension) with 1" steer tube (most forks now are oversize[with 1 1/8 or 1.5"]) If ever there is a fork with suspension that has a 1" steer tube, would that feet my mountain bike's frame (headset)?
