Which places and institutions in Britain are dominated by the Upper Middle Cl?
Upper Middle Cl = Different from the Rich, Middle Cl and Lower Middle Cl in the fact that they are almost always university educated to a postgraduate level and work in either the professions (eg. law, medicine, academia) or are top level management people in commerce and the civil service. They are usually comfortably well off, but not independently wealthy. Their cl sells their expertise, and therefore they generally enjoy a great deal of autonomy and self-direction in their work, whether they make their livings as university lecturers, surgeons, barristers, magistrates, or corporate executives. They often value private independent schools for their childrens' education and academic success is highly prized. They tend to form two separate identities. The managerial wing is more conservative and suburban, while the professions are decidedly more liberal and urban.
